Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre of Barcelona, Spain opened its first overseas venture as the Barraquer UAE Eye Hospital in Phase 2 of the Dubai Health Care City (DHCC) in Al Jaddaf Dubai.
The new hospital, commenced operations in the second half of 2021, will bring to Dubai and the region, its medical and surgical expertise in eye care that has been honed since 1941 at the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center in Barcelona. The Center specialises in research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and management of eye diseases, providing comprehensive eye care to patients from over 90 countries worldwide.
The Dubai branch will offer a range of services covering diagnosis and surgery – cornea, conjunctiva, refractive and glaucoma specialities among others – through outpatient consultations as well as inpatient treatments. The Hospital will have 10 beds and emergency care 24/7. It will also provide education and training, in accordance with Dubai’s promise to build a knowledge-based economy.
Spread over 13,000 square metres, the six-floor Hospital is a joint venture between Barraquer and financial partner Grandis Capital Investment Company.

Founded in 1941 in Barcelona, Spain by Dr. Ignacio Barraquer, the Centre’s medical team is made up of more than 30 eminent ophthalmologists who cover all areas of ophthalmology and cosmetic eye surgery. The team is complemented by internal medicine doctors and professionals in other specialisms, providing an integrated and personalised service. The centre in Barcelona undertakes 150,000 consultations per year and performs 16,000 procedures.
